Frequently
Asked Questions
What is Camp Fire USA?
Camp Fire USA Georgia Council is a non-profit organization that provides programs for boys and girls in grades one
through twelve throughout the state of Georgia. Camp Fire USA programs offer rich development opportunities for
children and families. Through Camp Fire, children and families engage in all-inclusive, coeducational programs
that build service and leadership skills and strengthen communities. Many of our members participate in traditional
club activities during the school year and many more spend out-of-school time in the summer at our day and resident camps.
Who Can Join?
In Camp Fire USA, everyone is welcome, regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual
orientation or other aspect of diversity. We are inclusive and open to every person in each community we serve.
We work to realize the dignity and worth of each individual and to eliminate human barriers based on all
assumptions that prejudge individuals. In addition, our program standards are designed and implemented to
reduce gender-role, racial and cultural stereotypes and to foster positive intercultural relationships.
Why Kids Should be Involved With Camp Fire USA?
Our programs encourage every child to discover his or her talents and abilities in a safe and secure environment.
We think it is important that kids satisfy their need to belong. Camp Fire allows youth to be part of a group
that helps them make friends, interact with adult role models and become concerned citizens in their communities.
This is taught through fun, coeducational activities, such as camps, clubs and service-learning programs.
What programs are offered?
Through our comprehensive and award-winning program, we serve 4,000 youth and their families each year.
Youth participate in a yearlong, full spectrum of programs. Our current programs include:
Classic Club Program:
Youth meet with adult mentors in homes, schools, churches and community centers. Together, youth and volunteers decide upon the structure: meeting times, projects, trips and community participation. Children earn beads and emblems as they complete individual as well as club goals. Kids move progressively through Camp Fire program level according to their school level. Each program level name symbolizes expanding opportunities, choices and leadership. The Classic Club program is also offered in an after school setting.
Community Family Club:
A unique response to the needs of today's families, Community Family Club includes all ages and family members. During meetings, members use Camp Fire USA.s curriculum as their family activity. Community Family Club builds a support system for families as well as bringing our values to children. Groups generally meet once a month for dinner and activities.
Teens in Action:
This program recognizes that you can be part of the solution of today's social challenges. Through leadership retreats, local and national networking opportunities, community service projects, technology training, and statewide conferences on teen issues (such as global awareness and teen violence), teenagers are empowered to become caring, confident youth and future leaders.
Self-Reliance Program:
Camp Fire USA.s Self-Reliance program offers individual 4 or 6 week courses, each with a specific topic. The curriculum teaches children specific skills such as staying safe or how to address peer pressure. Trained Camp Fire volunteers and staff can bring any of the self-reliance courses to your school, church or organization.
Day Camps:
Camp WoHeLo in Roswell is offered weekdays throughout the summer. Camp activities include swimming, archery, sports, cook-outs and are designed to teach youth the values of teamwork, environmental responsibility and service to the community.
Resident Camps:
Our residential Camp, Camp Toccoa, is located in the 1.5 hours from Atlanta and lies on 176 acres in the foothills of the north Georgia Mountains with hiking trails, streams and waterfalls, a dining hall, swimming pool, playing fields, horses, a lake for canoeing, rustic cabins, a nature center and a high and low ropes courses.
